We’re got a treat tonight as we not only get Agnes Moorhead but also Peter Lorre in a weird tale. I’ve always found it interesting Lorre was always included in what was considered a trio of radio terror, alongside Vincent Price and Boris Karloff. Lorre wasn’t really in many horror films though and is probably best remembered for his roles in The Maltese Falcon and Casablanca; two movies that are definitively not dealing with the supernatural.
I think more people would associate Bela Lugosi with horror than Lorre but Lugosi’s accent was so thick he didn’t actually appear all too often on the radio. I guess that’s how Peter Lorre wins out. Tonight we’re going to give a listen to an episode of a short lived series from 1947; Mystery in the Air, which featured Lorre every week. He’s especially good in tonight episode too!
Turn out the lights and get ready for The Lodger on Mystery in the Air as it aired August 14th, 1947.

On a quick side note, most visitors to TGG probably don’t know I ran an old time radio website quite a few years back and I have tens of thousands of radio shows in my collection. Each of the programs I’ll share during the Spooktacular have had their audio personally cleaned up by me to remove many of the pops, crackles, and hisses so common with old time radio recordings. These aren’t pristine by any means but keep in mind the original broadcasts you’ll be hearing are anywhere from fifty to eighty years old…
