Following a successful Kickstarter run, Oakland based newcomer Out of Order Games is set to release their first game title. Bloc by Bloc: The Insurrection Game is a semi-cooperative game where two to four players aim to liberate a randomly generated city from an oppressive regime. Don’t be fooled by the “cartoonish” style of the graphics as Bloc by Block looks to be a pretty deep and challenging strategy title.
Bloc by Bloc releases November 15th, with an MSRP of $59.99.
From Out of Order:
In Bloc by Bloc: The Insurrection Game, players join a popular anti-state uprising raging across the diverse districts of a randomly generated city that changes with every game. Each player controls one faction of street fighters and revolutionaries who must cooperate with other factions while balancing their own objectives in order to push back riot cops, loot shopping centers, build barricades, and occupy state districts before the military arrives and time runs out.
In each game of Bloc by Bloc, the city is made up of a randomly generated 5 x 5 grid of district tiles. Each district tile has a two sides: a repressed side and a liberated side. At the start of the game, all districts are repressed and, over the course of the game, players work together to liberate districts one at a time.
The game lasts 8 nights, where each round is 1 night. During each night, each player takes a turn: 3-5 actions and ending with police movement controlled by the Police Ops deck. Each player starts with 3 blocs in the city and can add more throughout the game. On a player’s turn, they roll dice and take one action (such as looting, occupying, attacking, or barricading) for each die rolled with 1+ of their blocs. Players may use loot cards to enhance their actions. At the end of the day, police take their turn and then all players get a chance to work together to liberate districts.
For the insurrection to succeed, players must cooperate to occupy all four state districts in the city before the military arrives. Any faction can occupy any of the four state districts. However, each faction also has its own secret agenda with a set of specific tasks that faction must complete in order to win the game.
