Bill Fogarty of Mayfair Games shared this bit of news with us earlier today:
(Plant City, FL) – The Worldwide Catan Championship Tournament will take place in Burg Wildenstein Castle, Leibertingen, Germany from Friday, September 17 through Monday, September 20, 2010. This event will bring together the winners of regional and national Catan tournaments from around the world. The winner will be the Worldwide Catan Champion for the next two years. This is the first time that the WWCC has been held in a medieval castle.
Mayfair Games, Kosmos and Catan GmbH work together to sponsor this biennial event, provide the lodging, food and space for the tournament. Fifty-three invitations have been issued to the various winners of the regional and national Catan tournaments and five of those invitations have gone to five North Americans. They are: Robin Baksh (Eastern Canadian Tournament winner), Chris Bradley (Origins Tournament winner), Adrian DeRoche (Western Canadian Tournament winner), David Zevin (Gen Con Indy Tournament Winner) and Edgar Zurawell (2009 North American Catan Championship Tournament winner). Tournament results will be posted on the Mayfair Games website (www.mayfairgames.com).
Retailers and conventions across the United States and Canada are and will be hosting North American Catan Championship Qualifiers throughout the end of 2010 and the first six months of 2011. The winners of these qualifier tournaments will attend Gen Con Indy in 2011 to compete in the NACC Tournament; the winner of the NACC Tournament will receive an invitation to attend the 2012 Worldwide Catan Championship tournament. Stores are invited to contact Jim Miles, Mayfair Games’ Event Manager ([email protected]), for more information on hosting a Qualifier.

Can you believe I lived in Germany for three years, and never made any of the tournaments?? I did go to Essen though 🙂
I'm jealous of everyone heading to Deutchland to game! I'd missed hearing about the qualifying rounds nearest me (Manitoba, Canada) to get entered in this tourney until the day after they were played, so I didn't even get a shot.

You've got us beat Chachito because at least you've made it to Essen! And I know Elliott feels your pain Shawn; he didn't hear about the qualifiers until right after they were played.
I just found out that the 2011 qualifiers are starting this month. There is actually one in Chicago at a convention called Wolfcon VI. I'm thinking about going, just for the experience of it, not that I feel like I'm any great Catan player. It would be really cool to win a trip to Germany.
My cousin recommended this blog and she was totally right keep up the fantastic work!
