The components for City of Gears are top notch and the steampunk themed game is loads of fun as well. At it's heart we're looking at an area control game, but the mix of special city tile abilities and linked tile bonuses as well as the balancing of gears as potential permanent advantages or as connections throughout the city makes for interesting game play. Some might not like the "take that!" nature of the design (there's a less confrontational variant though) and the theme isn't very strong here but I find City of Gears to be just my sort of game and one of the most entertaining I've played this year.

Another Kickstarter that I backed. Thought it was pretty good when I got it out. Haven’t gotten it to the table as often as I would like. Thanks for the great review. I thought there was a lot of player-interaction which I really like. I enjoyed the take-that mechanic in the game. You can really get in there and mess around in the “arena” or you can rush the game to the end as is your liking. However, if you do rush the game, you are missing out on a lot of the fun.
