Delay Announced for Advanced D&D Premium Editions

We were expecting the release of the the special memorial editions of the original Advanced Dungeons & Dragons this month but Wizards of the Coast have announced a delay until July 17th. The premium editions are reproductions of the original hardcover books and include the Players Handbook ($34.95), the Dungeon Master’s Guide ($44.95), and the Monster Manual ($34.95). Purchasing any, or all, of these premium books will support the Gygax Memorial Fund to honor the man many consider to be the father of role playing, E. Gary Gygax.

Personally, I think if the print run – which will be very limited to begin with – is already delayed WotC should simply wait a few weeks longer and release the set at this year’s GenCon. That would give con goers the opportunity to pick up the set at the MSRP as opposed to probably having to pay an inflated price for what will surely sell out soon after release.

Just my two cents as I already have plans to add the premium books to my collection since they’re a great source of nostalgia and a portion of the proceeds will go to a good cause.
