What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but unfortunately NeonCon will no longer be a happening in Las Vegas… The organizers have announced they’re pulling the plug after five years and the final show will have been the November 2011 con. Vegas has been a hotbed of conventions for decades but seems to be a rather tough sell to gamers and their families as far as shows devoted to the hobby.
“For five years, NeonCon has been our passion project,” CEO Doug Daulton writes, “We worked hard to keep the show affordable, engaging and, most importantly, fun. I am proud to say we hit each mark. But in the end, those elements did not add up to a sustainable business.”
“Having said that, I would do it all again, even knowing how it would end.” Daulton concluded.
NeonCon added a game developer’s conference as part of the show in 2009 but was in reality more of a niche geek weekend overall during it’s five year lifespan.
