Over 1,800 libraries across the USA plus Argentina, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Pakistan and Puerto Rico are participating in this year’s National Gaming Day on Nov 13th (Saturday).

Libraries will offer the change for attendees to play modern board games, traditional games, and will also hold two national video game tournaments with libraries competing against each other in Rock Band and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

1,500 of the participating libraries have received copies of Wits and Wagers Family from North Star Games through a generous donation, and many libraries have shelves full of board games just waiting to be played.

You can see a google map of the participating libraries Here

I would like to encourage everyone to attend and support this event. Also, I’d like to encourage those of us who are interested in expanding this gaming hobby of ours to contact their local libraries and encourage them to participate in National Gaming Day, if not this one then the next one. I can see that the two closest libraries to me are not participating, and I am going to do my best to find out why. I plan to encourage them and find out what they need to become participants in the next gaming day.

National Gaming Day @ your library is a national initiative supported by the American Library Association and 2010 co-sponsors North Star Games and DEMCO.

  1. Some libraries haven’t gotten on the list yet. Our own local library, the Fletcher Free in Burlington, Vermont, is participating. Interested people can swing by the discussion forum to learn more.
