Who Goes There? (Certifiable Studios)If you’re a fan of John Carpenter’s The Thing, or the Howard Hawk’s 1951 film The Thing from Another Planet, you’ll certainly want to check out an upcoming game from Certifiable Studios. Based on the classic SF story of the same name, Who Goes There? places the players in an arctic science station as a hostile alien creature is discovered. Can the players escape before being infected by the alien or is the world doomed? The game is for three or four players, ages 14+, and plays in around 90 minutes to two hours. Who Goes There? is set to arrive in August with an MSRP of $75.00. There are two expansions on the horizon as well (containing two additional characters each) which will bring the game up to six players and each will carry an MSRP of $28.00.

From Certifiable Studios:

The celebrated novella that inspired John Carpenter’s landmark film THE THING is now a tabletop game! First published in 1938, Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell, Jr. is widely regarded as one of the finest science fiction stories ever written. Now play as one of the original characters in this official tabletop adaptation—a suspenseful game of co-op, strategy and growing paranoia.

Grab what buildables you can and make a weapon. If staving off hunger pains and avoiding an avalanche wasn’t enough, you’ve got a dog attack on our hands, and that boiler is about Who Goes There? Components (Certifiable Studios)ready to blow. Your friends need Canned Food for the next round, and you dare not sleep alone on the bunk round coming up. The only way out of this ice-hole is on that helicopter you don’t know how to fly, conveniently enough.

You have two ways out: in a body bag or on the helicopter. If you want to fly that helicopter though, you’ll need to go outside the camp to find maps, fuel and other bonuses, but the Thing is out there too. If you’re not careful, the Thing will leave you vulnerable, if not infected.

The more vulnerable your friends become, the less you can trust them. You can’t afford to let the Thing get on the helicopter with you, or it’ll infect the whole world. I mean, unless you yourself become the Thing, then by all means, hop on and doom the human race.

  1. If you play WGT? with 8 players it’s kinda like the Hunger Games in the Arctic; not enough medkits or food to go around. That’s why it’s playable for 3-6 players when you add the expansions 😉
