I always mention you’d be hard pressed to find better folks in the board game industry, regardless of genre, than the gang at GMT and this news piece once again proves that point. Following a request from the late South Carolinian historian Robert B. McNair’s mother, GMT is now making the final two hundred copies of the self-published American Civil War game Pocotaligo, 1862 & 1864 available for $18.00 plus shipping.
From Gene Billingsley:
We have a special item that we want to tell you guys about – an opportunity to get the last 200 copies of a pretty rare wargame at a terrific price ($18 + shipping).
The game is Pocotaligo, 1862 &1864. It’s a tactical wargame, loosely based on the original SPI GBACW system, created by Robert B. McNair, a South Carolina historian and game designer. It is a ziplock game that was originally published in 1997, and includes a die-cut countersheet, a color game map, Basic and Advanced Rules, and over a dozen scenarios between the Basic and Advanced games. I think it’s worth the price for the included Historical Booklet alone, as I knew nothing about these two battles (Pocotaligo and Tulifiny Crossroads) before I learned of this game.
I thought you guys might want a link to a BGG page that has several play sessions of the game. You can see map and counter images there.

This is a collector’s item of sorts. As far as I know, it has never been sold widely in our hobby. Mostly, it was sold through local South Carolina museums and on eBay in very limited numbers. We were contacted recently by the designer’s mother, and asked if we’d sell the last 200 copies of his game to help her create a legacy for her son. We’re happy to help.
