Deadline is currently reporting responses to questions regarding more X-Files events (or a return to series) during a recent press call with Fox TV Group chairmans Dana Walden and Gary Newman. “We have had conversations with (creator) Chris Carter and (stars) David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson,” said Walden. “I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show.”
Although the key participants are already committed to other projects Walden added talks are continuing and “hopefully this season we will be able to get it done and that the same time next year (May), we will have something to announce.”
Newman further elaborated negotiations were keyed into “what kind of episodic order makes sense. Some of that is driven by schedules,” he said. “Conversations are ongoing. I can tell you that all of them would like to do more of these, and certainly the network and studio want to do more,” Newman concluded. A time frame for further X-Files adventures to air would tentatively be set for the 2017-18 season.
While the return of The X-Files received what could be best described as a mixed bag critically, the six part television event was one of the most watched programs for Fox during the recently concluded 2015-16 season. The show even clocked in as the second most viewed Fox VOD series behind Empire.
