Vul-Con 2012

Michael Coe and Patrick Nickell, join me to discuss all things Crash Games including the successfully Kickstarted Rise!, as well as upcoming titles Legend of the Lost Dutchman and Lords, Ladies, and Lizards. Crash Games is located right here in the Phoenix valley so swing by their website and see what they have cooking!Once again our Raw series may not have the same sound quality as the usual TGG show simply because they are recorded on the spot at conventions around the U.S. I do want to point after the first few minutes of the interview there was less background noise around us so the quality improves.http://www.thegaminggang.com/audio/TGG-Extra35-VulCon2012Raw-CrashGames.mp3Download the show to take it on the go right here. And don't forget, The Gaming Gang is available on iTunes. Also add the podcast feed to your favorite aggregator or app with this link.
Our good friend Alan Emrich, of Victory Point Games, joins me straight from the floor of Vul-Con 2012 as we talk about the latest developments at VPG and what’s on the horizon from the company. We discuss In Magnificent Style, The World Will Hold Its Breath, King’s Critters and lots and lots more![caption id="attachment_17226" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Alan Emrich and Nathan Hansen of VPG"][/caption]Once again our Raw series may not have the same sound quality as the usual TGG show simply because they are recorded on the spot at conventions around the U.S.http://www.thegaminggang.com/audio/TGG-Extra32-VulCon2012Raw-VictoryPointGames.mp3Download the show to take it on the go right here. And don't forget, The Gaming Gang is available on iTunes. Also add the podcast feed to your favorite aggregator or app with this link.
Elliott and Jeff discuss this past weekend's Vul-Con convention which took place in Phoenix, Arizona. What begins as a rehash of the weekend con delves into the topic of game stores actively working against the success of a local convention. All this and a sprinkling of our usual nonsense...Our apologies for the occasional background noises as this was a completely spur of the moment podcast and Elliott's family was going about their normal evening activities.http://www.thegaminggang.com/audio/TGG-Extra31-VulCon2012Raw.mp3Download the show to take it on the go right here. And don't forget, The Gaming Gang is available on iTunes. Also add the podcast feed to your favorite aggregator or app with this link.
I'll be covering Vul-Con this year and looking forward to checking out what looks to be an odd little miniatures game, Dawn: Rise of the Occulites from Darwin Games. I've heard a few things about the game but there haven't been any demos in the area, to my knowledge, until now. From Darwin Games:G’day guys,If you are in the US and anywhere near Phoenix, you may be aware that the Phoenix Vul-Con 2012 is coming up very quickly. In fact it will be happening on the 25th and 26th of February at the Phoenix Convention Centre. Why is an Australian company mentioning a Convention in the US?Well, because Dawn: Rise of the Occulites will be represented there in the form of demo games run by some of Darwin Games’ US friends and playtesters. This will be your first opportunity to see the game demo-ed at a US convention and we hope that those of you who are close by will pop down to say g’day and have a game! I sadly won’t be able to attend (stuck in Australia teaching) but Kelly and Russ are both enthusiastic and have been instrumental in the external playtesting of Dawn, so drop in and say g’day! For more information on locations and times that the demos will be run, check out Vul-Con 2012.At the moment it will be run on both days on table M25. So stop by, check out some of the miniatures and see how the game plays! If you do get the chance to drop in, we’d love to post any comments, feedback or questions you may have here or on the forums: Darwin Games Forums.

Remember Vul-Con will be held Feb 25 & 26, 2012 at the Phoenix Convention Center! Here's also the latest from the Vul-Con team regarding some new contests:We've announced three themes for Phoenix Vul-Con 2012 - our overall Roman Theme, Dust Day Arizona 2012 (Weird World War II) Saturday, and Steampunk Sunday. We want to enhance the feel, the fun, and the eye candy - so we're challenging Cosplayers to come out to Phoenix Vul-Con 2012 in their best costumes that fit these themes. We're kicking off that concept with a contest and prizes. Email us your picture wearing your Roman, Dust, or Steampunk costume (not too high of resolution please - nothing over 300KB) and judges from the Vul-Con Team will pick the top three. We'll post the top three pictures and maybe a few of the others here on Facebook. The top three will each receive a complimentary pass to Phoenix Vul-Con 2012. All others will receive a coupon for a discounted membership. That's just phase one.Phase two - At Phoenix Vul-Con 2012, we will hold another costume competition for those who turn out in the appropriate theme on the appropriate day. We'll gather the Dust-costumed Cosplayers on Saturday, the Steampunks on Sunday, and those in Roman garb both days - four contests, each judged by a panel of Senators and Guests. The winners will receive a prize and a Vul-Con Trophy.Send your picture for phase one to [email protected] We can't wait to see your pictures and look forward to seeing you (in costume of course) at Phoenix Vul-Con 2012!
I know I mentioned the Vul-Con convention coming to Phoenix, AZ (I’ll be there and I’m trying to convince Elliott to fly out for the show as well) and it’s February 25-26th. Luckily, I've been informed of some new updates to forward along. From organizer Jay Mann:While both days of the Con will have a full range of gaming, we're theming each of the days. This year Saturday is Dust Day and actually is the official Dust Day Arizona 2012 - the second in the world (first was in Argentina) and the first in the US.  Sunday will be a Steam Punk themed day.For Dust Day Arizona we'll have a broad range of special events and activities going on, including Dust themed games, such as Dust Tactics, B17 Queen of the Skies reimagined as a multiplayer cooperative game, a Weird WWII roleplaying game, Fortune and Glory, and more.  There will also be a military airfield display - Vulcan Field - that will include a full-sized model of an experimental WWII aircraft.  Special virtual guests Paolo Parente and Andy Chambers will join players and fans near Vulcan Field through a restored WWII Remote Commander (the one you saw the photo of online).  Additionally, Swag for the day will be enhanced by Dust themed Swag giveaways and costumed characters will add to the atmosphere.Steampunk Day on Sunday is a little earlier in its evolution, but currently includes Steampunk themed games, such as Malifaux, Dystopian Wars, Wolsung Steam Fantasy RPG, Battle Over Caprona - Bi-Planes vs. Pteranodons using Wings of Glory, and more.  Special virtual guest Paul Guinan - creator of Boilerplate - will provide updates on the upcoming Boilerplate movie from Bad Robot and producer J.J. Abrams.  Additional surprises for Steampunk Day are currently in the works.Stay tuned over the next few days as we’ll be offering a special discount code for The Gaming Gang audience to save on their badge registration!
