The life of an architect is full of hard work. Being a caveman architect is even harder, but at least when your construction crew messes up, you can beat them over the head with a spiked club.
Let’s not beat around the bush here. Ugg-Tect is a Pictionary-style party game where two teams of up to four cavemen each will have to build structures out of wooden blocks. The twist is that only the team leader (architect) can see the construction plans, and must communicate to the team using only grunts and stomps. Of course, when the team’s building goes astray, they’ll receive a few whacks from the included inflatable club to keep them on course.
“The paleolithic language barrier is an ever-present obstacle; an ugg-tect and his tribemates may only communicate with a limited vocabulary of grunts and gestures, along with a few “corrective” taps of an inflatable club! “Ugungu” means “take,” for example, while stomping your feet indicates the white wooden cylinder. So if your team’s ugg-tect shouts “Ugungu!” while vigorously slamming his feet to the floor, grab the white piece and await further grunting!”
The upcoming release of Ugg-Tect is actually the American debut of 2009’s Aargh! Tect from German publisher Heidelberger Spieleverlag. On the BoardGameGeek forums, designer Walter Obvert gave a brief history of the game’s many name changes over the years, as it was first named Urk!Tect with an ork theme, and also has been renamed to Aargh!Tecte and Trogloditargh in France and Spain, respectively.
Ugg-Tect includes:
- Two inflatable clubs
- Eight large wooden blocks (in various shapes and colors)
- Two cardboard slabs and two crib sheets
- Twenty-four project cards
- One rulebook
Look for Ugg-Tect to hit store shelves later this year and retail for $39.99.
