It’s been an on again off again relationship, but it looks like the Ouija movie, based on the Ouija board game from Hasbro has the green light and will be released sometime in 2013. (The game is really just a Ouija board, which is used to communicate with the dead, in theory)
The plans had originally been shelved, probably due to the so-so performance of “Battleship“, the first of the game title related movies licensed from Hasbro. Ouija will have a drastically reduced budget, so we might be looking at another Paranormal Activity type movie, and that is okay with me.
Universal is giving it the old college try however, and have brought on Paranormal Activity producer Jason Blum. They have also hired writer-director Juliet Snowden of the upcoming horror film “The Posession” (due for release August 31st) fame to write a new draft of the script and co-direct along with Stiles White.
Who knows? We may yet still see movies based on Clue and Candyland (reportedly to be an Adam Sandler Film from Sony), the other properties that Universal originally licensed but have been attempting to bail out of.
