In a bit of news my 11 year old nephew Cameron will certainly appreciate – Greg has him hooked on the X-Files through Netflix and they seem to watch an episode every night – Agent Dana Scully has indicated there will be a third X-Files film. Gillian Anderson is sharing some behind the scenes info as far as her contact with the show’s creator Chris Carter.
“I met with Chris before coming here and it’s looking pretty good… We have to convince FOX”
This comes on the heels of a recent interview in which David Duchovny was quoted, “I would love to do another film, or more. I think we’re all game for it. I know I’m kind of perplexed that Fox isn’t more [enthusiastic] — Why not make a homegrown franchise that is excellent, and that has proven to be excellent and interesting?”
So it appear the two stars and the creator are on board for a third film but with the lackluster receptions for the first two films will 20th Century Fox be game for a third go round a decade after the series concluded? With the rising acceptance of video on demand or online exclusives for Netflix and Hulu could Fox consider going that route in order to satisfy fans?
I’m a bit torn on seeing a new X-Files film as I didn’t follow the show all that much when it originally aired (yes… burn me in effigy) but I didn’t think the theatrical releases were THAT bad.
Are there that many fans clamoring for more X-Files? We’ll have to see.
