I take a look to see what you’ll find inside my pal Hermann Luttmann’s new design, Duel of Eagles, to be released by White Dog Games. Duel of Eagles simulates the Franco/Prussian War battle of Mars-La-Tour (scene of von Bredlow’s famous “Death Ride”) which took place August 16th, 1870.
Sorry about the sniffling as I’m just getting over the flu…

Thanks Jeff – nicely done!
Just FYI – there will be a boxed version available as well (and I think a PNP also).
The final production version of the game will have two CRT / Event Description cards, one Prussian and one French, so each player has their own references available immediately at hand.
We’ll also have a few of the minor graphic glitches fixed by then (some of the color-coding will be corrected and General Voigts-Rhetz will have a portrait).
Thanks again!
Hermann
Congratulations on branching out with White Dog, Hermann – please let us know when the boxed version is available for purchase.
I kinda dislike it when pieces fall off the sheet so easily like that; hopefully that’s just an anamoly here.
Jeff, looking forward to your review!
Thanks Steve! Michael Kennedy who runs White Dog Games (which is named after his dog, Skye) is a really nice guy and very accomodating. I’m hoping we’ll have a long and fruitful relationship. I’m a big fan of his Neuve Chapelle and Shield Wall games.
As far as the boxed version of DoE, all three versions should be available this week. I’m assuming that Jeff’s copy of the game got knocked about when it was re-shipped. Mike sent him his production proof copy and I assume that the “real” production copies will be cut very carefully by VPG.
Regarding the Historical Scenario, that is in fact the only scenario in the game at this time. We toyed with other situations, but because of the historical circumstances, any edge given to the French would lead to a very unentertaining game. This battle almost requires it to be played as it happened, it’s that finely balanced. Time and space forbid me to really explore more elaborate reinforcement schemes, but we will eventually come up with a variable reinforcement rule that will slightly alter the time of arrival and allow players to direct reinforcements to a different entry point. These will available for download on the WDG site and BGG.
Thanks!
Hermann
