Boop-oop-a-doop! Coming next year Titan Comics will release the full run of Betty Boop’s newspaper comic strip adventures, which ran from 1934 through 1937. While her run in the funny papers may not have been a long one, Betty Boop has been part of pop culture since she made her screen debut in 1930’s Max Fleischer’s animated Dizzy Dishes and the racy little flapper gal is no doubt one of the most recognizable cartoon characters in the world.
In an interview Mark Fleischer, Chairman and CEO of Fleischer Studios said:
“These wonderful classic strips capture the essence of Betty Boop. It never ceases to amaze me how her charming, coquettish, mischievous personality enlivens whatever medium in which she appears, be it print, animation, television or digital and how she has brought delight to generations upon generations of fans.”
The Definitive Betty Boop: The Classic Comic Strip Collection is scheduled to arrive in stores, and appear on mobile devices exclusively through comiXology, in September 2015 and will collect artist Bud Counihan’s entire King Features Syndicate run. The collection will also include an authoritative introduction and the history of Betty Boop from then ‘til now.
As an added bit of fun, here’s my favorite Betty Boop cartoon, Minnie the Moocher – featuring the legendary Cab Calloway – in HD no less! Talk about a bizarre cartoon!
