The latest issue of the Z-Man newsletterhas been released. In this issue, the discussion turns to Grimoire. Designed by Hayato Kisaragi, it is a game for 2-4 players and lasts 30-60 minutes.
In this game, each player receives a spell book and a bookmark. Each turn they select a certain level spell and mark it with the bookmark. The higher level spells help you defeat your opponents, but the lower level spells get to choose their quest cards first, which lead to more victory points.
Originally released in Japan wth unimpressive components but great gameplay ratings, I’m betting Z-Man has improved on the first to create an excellent overall experience. We’ll know soon enough as the game is tentatively due to hit the shelves in May. The possible addition of a fifth player that was hoped for sadly seems not to have made this release.
You can read all about the game in the latest issue of the Z-man games newsletter.
