Grimoire from Z-Man Games has hit the store shelves. Modified from the original Japanese release by going up to FIVE players instead of four. In this game, each player receives a spell book and a bookmark. Each turn they select a certain level spell and mark it with the bookmark. The higher level spells help you defeat your opponents, but the lower level spells get to choose their quest cards first, which lead to more victory points. Rumor has it that the artwork and components (hopefully the spellbooks) have been upgraded to higher standards than the Japanese release.
Grimoire was designed by Hayato Kisaragi and takes about an hour to play. It is a card game with spellbooks included for extra grim fun.
Grimoires are ancient tomes from which Wizards learn their spells, everything from the simplest of cantrips to spells of unspeakable power. Wizards generally use this knowledge to help their fellow adventurers to quest for fame and fortune…but sometimes they turn that power on each other!
