Games magazine has chosen the independently published Jump Gate as its 2011 Traditional Game of the Year. Designed by Matt Worden and published by Matt Worden Games, Jump Gate is a sci-fi-themed game for 2 to 6 players, ages 12 and up.
Players take on the role of space captains in Jump Gate, competing to acquire the most valuable resources from various planets. On each turn, a player can take two actions such as scanning a planet (revealing a resource), claiming a planet (revealing all resources and taking one), and jumping to another planet.
Category winners in the 2011 Games Magazine 100 list include Zrimaa (Abstract Strategy), Egizia (Advanced Strategy), Burger Joint (Family), Jaipur (Family Card), Valdora (Family Strategy), Telestrations (Party), Anti-Virus (Puzzle), and Battles of Napoleon: The Eagle and the Lion (Historical Sim). The complete 2011 top 100 list is in the December 2010 issue, which is now on sale.
