As of now, there are only seventeen days left to saddle up for miniatures action in Blackwater Gulch – Gangfights in the Old West from Gangfight Game Studio. The Kickstarter project is already at 322% of required funding but that doesn’t mean there still isn’t time to slap on a six shooter and get ready to battle it out with friends in the Wild West. Seeing I’m a fan of the history of the Old West (and, Hey! I live out here now!) I’m interested in learning more about this system. You can get the free rules PDF right here. Get on over and download ’em pardner… I just did!
From Gangfight:
Blackwater Gulch is a table top hobby game where you and your friends collect small gangs of finely detailed, 30mm miniature men who will fight each other in the fierce and wild west. You will create a gang or posse based on different professions and equipment, breathing life into your men through the skirmishes they win or lose in the town streets and outskirts.
The game is named after the fictional town of Blackwater Gulch, located “somewhere out west”. It’s around 1890 and a gold rush has brought fortune-seekers to town after a local discovery made nationwide news. This also brought a population boom and the town has become overcrowded with unsavory sorts, and not enough lawmen to go around.
Your gang is living in these troubling times. They can be lawmen or outlaws, vigilantes or freedom fighters. You decide who they are, what they can do and why they do it. Adventure awaits in Blackwater Gulch! Keep your six-guns by your side, and an eye on your back. You’ll never know who’s coming down the road…
Blackwater Gulch was launched in November of 2011. The rulebook is available on our website as a free PDF, or a print-on-demand book in soft or hardcover. The game has been steadily growing since it’s release and we have a couple of figures already available. However, in order to provide a solid selection of miniatures for players, we need your help!
Our plan at this point is to produce 2 “starter” box sets, and eventually many more. These sets will come with 5 figures, printed Character Cards for each figure, in addition to a small “quickstart” rulebook packaged in a special plastic box that can also double as a carrying case for your gang. Each set is to be designed around a specific storyline or theme. Our goal is to produce the best, highly detailed “Wild West” figures around, searching the world over for the best sculptors we can find.
The first starter set, The Clancy Gang, is a wild bunch of ruthless outlaws. Sculpting is complete and this set has an expected release date of “May or June 2012” with a expected retail price of $35. The original plan was to fund and produce this one set ourselves, and have the profits from that fund the next set. However, from start to finish it takes roughly 3 – 4 months to produce one set, and on top of that, at this early stage of the game it could take several months to sell enough to cover the next set. That is just too long to wait between releases.
This Kickstarter program is to fund our second starter set, The Vigilance Committee, a posse of lawmen and concerned citizens fighting to bring outlaws and criminals to justice. With your help, this set should be available “around July or August 2012.” As the Clancy Gang is going to be released earlier, you have the option of choosing whichever set you wish, or if you want both we will ship each item as it arrives. For shipping, we can cover the first $5 of your shipping costs, but we’ll need to charge you for the rest. See the FAQ at the very bottom of the page for additional shipping info and prices.
If you are new to the world of tabletop battle games, these starter sets provide everything you need to start a new gang in Blackwater Gulch. Our backing levels are mostly in increments of $30, thus for every $30 you may select the starter set of your choice, and get a savings of $5 per set off the retail price. If you don’t have much in the way of terrain or scenery for the time period, we also offer limited bundles with GameCraft buildings. GameCraft makes laser-cut wood building kits, that are very easy to build and paint and really help bring the game to life. Most of all, they provide much needed cover for your gang members to hide in and behind!
This is just the beginning. With your help, we plan to release many different sets following all sorts of stories and themes. Native Americans, Mexicans, Hillbillies, Soiled Doves, Gold Miners, Army Rejects… there are so many options! And in addition to box sets, we also intend to release additional figures to go with each set, sold in add-on packs of 2 or 3 figures.
Our funding goal of $3500 reflects the costs involved with getting one box set done, from start to finish, in addition to Kickstarter’s fees. It includes the artwork, sculpting, boxes, printing and enough figures produced for at least 100 copies, which is about how many we need to sell to break even.
We have so many fun projects planned, and it’s all riding on this project getting off it’s feet. We hope you will see the potential in a fast, fun and easy to learn game and offer your support!
