On Monday, Hasbro revealed their first quarter financial results showing sales of game products played a major factor in the company’s overall positive performance. Hasbro’s net revenue was up 2 percent over the first quarter of last year, growing to $664 million. Overall operating profit was up 47 percent compared to the same quarter of 2012.
While the company’s U.S. and Canadian business was up 4%, although strong growth in Latin America (17%) and the Asia/Pacific region(27%) was offset by lackluster performance in Europe (a dip in net revenues of 7%). The entertainment and licensing side of Hasbro grew 5% to account for a 5% share of total net revenue.
The gaming segment of Hasbro grew 26% overall, led by over 30% growth in Magic: The Gathering. The company also pointed out 80% of the sales of M:TG are through hobby channels and not big box stores.
