pandemic vialsFebruary will be bringing us an all new and improved version of Pandemic, designed by Matt Leacock and to be released by Z-Man Games. Some of you might remember not so long ago you could buy medical vials filled with colored liquid in the same colors as the diseases in the game to add to your horror, realism, and fun as you play.

Alas, those vials are no more. They are unavailable indefinitely from the original manufacturer. So those of you who were wanting this little accessory have been out of luck for some time.

But never fear, they are available again from a new creator in the nick of time. You can buy a special edition set on Etsy right now for $9.99!

Just in time for the new release of the new version of Pandemic, the board game, in February 2013!This accessory is a must have for Pandemic board game lovers everywhere. The vials are actual clean medical vials. Each glass vial is filled with colored alcohol, and sealed on the hub.

The added feature of these special edition sets is the addition of colored flip off vial caps!

Each colored vial represents a disease from the game, including the fifth purple disease from “On the Brink”. These collectible accessories bring a new dimension of reality to your game. They can no longer be purchased online, from the game supplier, as they are out of stock indefinitely. Well, there’s no limit here.

I was told that Matt Leacock himself recently purchased a set. I’d like to have a set and then accidentally break one during a game and start screaming “Oh my god! Oh my god!”. I’d need a big red button to press that makes a bunch of alarms start to go off for the full effect.

Maybe that’s just me.

  1. New? Yes. Improved? Don’t think so!

    • As someone who isn’t a fan of Pandemic the only improvement I could see would by if these vials contained cyanide which I could possibly crack open if someone asked me to play back to back games of Pandemic…

      • Funny thing about Pandemic. I was really glued to it for about 20 games, then suddenly my interest dropped off to zero. Can’t really explain it. I’m sure I’d still lose alot on a high difficulty setting, but it just somehow feels solved.

  2. My wife and I have played literally hundreds of games of Pandemic over the past three years (at least twice a week X 150 weeks = 300+ games) over morning coffee. To me it is just about the perfect puzzle game, although we do play with the cards laid down in front of us, and usually with both the virulent and mutant strains in play. As Aaron said, this is a hard bar to hurdle, Leacock hit upon an amazing formula when he came up with this game. Having said that, the first expansion is the reason why we still play it to this day (one of the few expansions that dramatically improved a game IMO) so I have faith the new version will be a ton of fun as well.
