It’s time someone gave some credit to the original Ghost Hunters. I’m talking the Scooby Gang of course. You want to sit down to a night of gaming horror this Halloween with Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and of course Scooby Doo? Here is a rundown of the best of the games that can still be found. I’m not talking about those rip-off games like Scooby Doo Clue. I’m talking only about original games, even though they are all mere child’s play. The gang holds many a great memory for me, I even loved the movie. Of course, I love any movie with Rowan Atkinson.
Scooby Doo 3D Haunted House Game
My personal favorite. It is a small house filled with traps that each player must manouver past to catch the ghost on the roof. Kids love it and so do grown-ups. Watch out for that Mummy! Jinkies! Of course, half the pieces were lost in a few months, and it doesn’t always work quite right, but hey it was more reliable than mousetrap.
Scooby Doo Cyber Chase Board Game
“Scooby Doo and his friends have been zapped into a computer game and a most hair-raising adventure is about to begin: the Cyber Chase! Start off in the Science Lab and on your turn spin to see what will happen next. On your way, you need to overcome three different challenges.
Scooby Doo DVD Board Game
Scooby-Doo and the Gang are ready for their next mysterious adventure – in a DVD game! Go to the Crime Lab then race to the Mystery Mansion, the Kooky Carnival and the Freaky Forest as you try to be the first player to collect three clues and track down the villain. Secret passageways add excitement in this game that’s never the same twice!
Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion Game
Pile the gang into the Mystery Machine and head for your nearest haunted mansion. Two to four players spin the spinner card, move their cardboard Scooby tokens, and try to visit each of the board’s four corners to find out who’s doing what to be scary. The game includes scorecards, scare cards, and a Scooby Snack.
Scooby-Doo Hide and Shriek Game
From BoardGameGeek: Each player is dealt cards showing what ghosts he needs to capture. On a turn, the player spins the spinner to move across the board and follows the directions of the space landed on. If you land on a “Villain Space”, you check to see if the ghost matches one of your cards. If it does, you capture it. There are also special “Light Up Ghosts” that you identify by using a flashlight provided with the game. These must be captured last. The first player to capture all the ghosts on his cards wins.
Hold On Scooby-Doo
Scooby and Shaggy sit on top of a wall of bricks. On your turn, use a ghost hand to push out a brick. On someone’s tun they will tumble down. Yikes. Don’t let it be you. 44 bricks, Scooby-Doo/Shaggy figure and 2 ghost hands. For 2 or more players. Ages 5 and up
The best of the lot is the 3D haunted house game. It is like a toy and the kids love it, Zoinks! I’m still waiting for a Scooby Doo game that has some meat to it, and bread, and pickles, and mustard, and peanut butter, and anchovies!
