Hunger Games Sequel Delays X-Men

The Hunger Games has already amassed over $460 million worldwide, which has resulted in a delay to the production of the sequel to X-Men: First Class.

In case you were not aware, Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, also played the very sexy Mystique in X-Men: First Class, which grossed about $350 million in its entire run.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Fox Studios was planning on shooting the sequel to X-Men in the fall, but the overwhelming success of the Hunger Games has prompted them to delay shooting until January of next year. Lawrence can only be in one place at a time as it were, so something had to give.

Lionsgate produced The Hunger Games, so it was nice move on the behalf of Fox to delay production of X-Men FC2 so that she can shoot Catching Fire, the sequel to the Hunger Games. Lawrence is obviously a hot property now, so her stardom in Hunger Games will obviously boost ticket sales for X-Men. Maybe Fox is more smart than nice.

Now I will have to go pick up a copy of X-Men: First Class so I can pay more attention to Mystique this time. I’m guessing that sales of that video, which was released last September, will hit a nice spike very soon.
