I’ve run across this tidbit and it’s interesting to see how some websites are playing this up as the possibility Peter Jackson could direct a Doctor Who film… That’s certainly not how I’m reading the quotes from the Waikato Times interview with Matt Smith. Smith, who currently portrays the latest incarnation of the Doctor, indicates he’d love to head to New Zealand to film an episode of the series – not a film – and would relish Jackson helming the direction.
”I think it would be an absolutely wonderful place to film Doctor Who,” Smith told the Times while promoting the current series.
”I’m told it’s glorious. I’m told it’s quite similar to England. ”
Let’s get Peter Jackson to direct one and go and make it in New Zealand. I would love to, I will campaign endlessly to come over and film there,” Smith, who has never been to New Zealand, said.
”There’s clearly a great film industry out there. It’s something I would be very interested in it’s just whether we can persuade the producers to fly us all over.”
When the Times contacted Jackson, he seemed just as keen to take on the project as well. ”I’m a huge Dr Who fan, and I think Matt’s fantastic. Just name a time and place, and I’ll be there!” said Jackson. It’s a pretty well known fact Jackson is a Who fanatic as he has a collection of Who memorabilia including Sylvester McCoy’s costume when he paided the seventh Doctor.
So, it seems as Steven Moffat is as good as his word regarding the Doctor Who movie, or lack thereof, but there’s nothing to stop him from having Jackson direct an episode for the Doctor’s 50th anniversary.
