We hear from the pen of Ray Bradbury once again on one of the first science fiction programs to make a bow on radio, Dimension X. While a lot of episodes of Dimension X went a bit overboard with heavy handed moralizing, every once in a while you’d hear a tale which was aimed more toward giving you a good scare without trying to squeeze in a “message.”
In The Veldt, a couple of children become a wee bit too attached to their nursery room. A room which can telepathically create any place the children can imagine. In hindsight a nursery like that might not be a feature you’ll want to include in your very own futuristic “Happylife Home.”
It’s time to dim the lights and give The Veldt a listen as it aired on Dimension X back on August 9th, 1951.

Most people will probably remember The Veldt as the initial tale from Bradbury’s short story collection, The Illustrated Man. Interestingly enough though the story first appeared in The Saturday Evening Post in 1950 and the Dimension X production aired right about the same time The Illustrated Man was hitting bookstore shelves.
