This morning it was revealed BBC America has gone ahead with plans to bring Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently to television. Screenwriter Max Landis has been tapped to base the adaptation on an unpublished story line, which Adams had been working on at the time of his death, which takes place in the United States. The eccentric sleuth was the central character in the novels Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. The production will be handled by AMC Studios, Circle of Confusion, Ideate Media and IDW Entertainment.
IDW had already published a comic series featuring the oddball adventures of the titular detective and his assistant Todd in 2015.
No word yet on when we can expect the show to air but BBC America has placed a direct-to-series order for eight episodes according to Variety.
