I wanted to share a link to a short piece that Trent over on The Board Game Family had to share regarding the real investment involved in gaming. And it isn’t about money folks!
Invest wisely, buy board games
I think Trent nicely sums everything up in just a few short paragraphs!
One of the first pieces I posted here on TGG was right along the same vein; about what we really get as far as our return on investment into the hobby. I was recently talking to a buddy, Coleman, at work and found out that he and his girlfriend love to spend their Saturday nights kicking back with a few adult beverages and a stack of board games. They have a great time but many of their friends think they’re nuts that they’re “just sitting around playing games.” As if they’re watching paint dry…
Maybe I’m just getting old but I have to wonder when did spending time with people you care about, whose company you truly enjoy, engaged in meaningful interaction and having a good ol’ time become a waste? How is that “just sitting around?” I suppose just parking your ass on a barstool watching a game on the tube keeping an eye on the various members of the opposite sex floating past as scenery is a better investment? Don’t get me wrong… I’ve spent many an evening doing just that and had lots of fun but all in all I think I’d have rather been gathered together with my best buds, drinking suds and laughing it up as we duke it out over the latest hot game. But I suppose that just isn’t good enough for some people.
C’est la vie!
