Some Truths About Geek Misogyny (NSFW)

Fake Geek Girl AdvisoryWhere is it guaranteed, in the constitution of whatever country you live, you’ll always be happy as a pig in shit? I’m guessing nowhere. Yet over the past few years seemingly every asshole with a keyboard carries on as if a writ from god came down with a predestined christening to supreme satisfaction if they wish and if they can’t find that satisfaction woe to those who may stand in the way of their self-appointed happiness. Well that ain’t the way the world works, Bubba.

It’s shocking to watch people who purportedly dig the games, movies, comics, and so on TGG is all about rail on and on with their hatred they have for the individuals responsible for bringing these things to us; “Yep, I love this here golden goose but I’m really aiming to kill it!”

If you want to spew hatred for someone why not go take a good, hard look in the mirror.  No one made you spend five hundred bones on an X-Box One; no one said you had to keep buying Spider-Man after they killed off Peter Parker; no one said they’d renew Firefly even though no one actually watched the show when it was airing on Fox. No one promised you a goddamn thing when you decided to join the party and it also isn’t anyone else’s problem if you feel threatened by women adding their creative influence to the mix.

Just as no one made you socially retarded, or incapable of earning a decent wage, or unwilling to put down the bag of Cheetos in order to take a shower. There isn’t a single person who’s making a bad game, writing a crappy comic, or shooting a steaming pile of a movie looking to take food out of your family’s mouth or do you any harm so to carry on as if anything in our hobby is worthy of threatening someone with violence is laughable. It might be best to let the messenger live and shoot the recipient.

As much as you may want to blame the big bad world for making you unlovable – or unable to love anyone else – remember this… No one’s to blame.

Comic Value GirlWell, yeah, someone’s to blame and that someone is you. Or maybe your parents.

That’s an idea! I know it’s a tiny minority of the folks who come to TGG who want to rattle on about how they’re going to rape or kill someone but if you’re that sort, and you’re reading this, you may be better served by getting a grip and realizing this is all about fun and games; I’ve never known anyone who picked up a comic book, or game, or movie because they wanted to get all pissed off.

If for some reason you have a hard time distinguishing fantasy from reality, and still have a burning urge to spew some hatred, why not direct it where it should be aimed? Jump on Twitter and post your self-loathing on your own feed. Or go let your mom know how she should be gang raped because she raised such a complete waste of oxygen as you. Or tell your dad how he should be murdered because he told you the world was going to be your oyster and all you’ve got so far is half a box of fish stix.

Once you’ve done that you can do us all a favor and simply go fuck off…

Seriously? You make it out as if there are thousands of people lining up to post “rape-y” comments about women. I don’t think that’s anywhere near being true.

I’m certainly not going to try to put a number on how many men want to take to the internets to threaten women; not my bag nor do I have any interest in trying to gleen that number since I’m not an oracle. I will say there are a lot more scared little boys out there than you may think as we live in a society where more and more males are growing up to realize having mom and dad as their best friend probably wasn’t the best idea for anyone. Thankfully, my parents acted like parents and prepared me for whatever disappointments life may have thrown in my path; I grew up at a time when only winners took home a trophy of ribbon and you weren’t a success simply because you rolled out of bed that morning and showed up.

There are way too many angles to this discussion I probably could have written fifteen pages on the subject but the truth in the matter is too many people are dissatisfied with their lot in life and have invested WAY too much of their being into things which are meant to be fun and distracting, not a life’s mantra. They can’t get past the fact that they’re not sitting in the conventional “winners” category and it frosts their asses to no end.

Going online and saying someone deserved to be raped, or killed, or have their family violated in some way because I didn’t like something they were affiliated with would never fire a synapse in my brain because that’s not how I’m built. I might review something or offer an opinion about anything a visitor might spend their hard earned money on, which I think might be a pile of crap, but I don’t have some sense of being personally wronged because I didn’t like it. Then again that’s probably because I’m an adult and a man; something these fuckwits who spew hatred surely can never claim.

Ace, go hang out on 4chan or 8chan sometime if you don’t believe there are a large number of men out there posting rape threats directed at women.
