It’s been a challenging week that’s for sure. As folks may have noticed, we didn’t get a show up Monday due to the fact of a family emergency back home in AZ. I try not to delve too deeply into personal issues here on the site simply because people come here to get the latest on the gaming scene; sure, we share our thoughts and opinions but as far as getting into a lot about our personal lives? I honestly don’t think too many people are very interested.
That being said, as Elliott noted, I found my grandfather collapsed on his bathroom floor early Saturday and had him rushed to the hospital where a couple of days later from which we had him moved to hospice care. I have to say for being 91 years old he had been surprisingly independent and, outside of not being able to drive, pretty damn sharp – sharper than some folks out there half his age. Sadly, he was only being kept alive in the hospital through medication and machines, while the diagnosis of any sort of recovery of his faculties was given to us as less than one percent. Already having been informed of his wishes in the case of something like this taking place it was decided to move him to hospice. Knowing that there wasn’t much time left for him made the decision of whether or not to attend Gen Con extremely difficult. After discussions with my family and Elliott, I’m now in Indianapolis, albeit with a heavy heart.
I honestly promise to do my damnedest to provide top notch reporting regardless of what’s taking place in my personal life. Add to that the fact that I need some serious cheering up. On a side note, that’s to the folks who have emailed well wishes and for Elliott taking the reins of the website for the past few days.
Elliott and I already have loads planned to bring to you from this year’s convention and we look to bring the kind of coverage we originally had planned for Origins. I’ll be flying solo at the show on Thursday while Elliott is going to take on the duties alone on Sunday, but we’ll be tag teaming on Friday and Saturday. There are tons of interviews already scheduled and we plan to have nightly postings of the goings on at Gen Con 2011.
If you thought our coverage of Origins was fairly extensive, you haven’t seen (or heard) anything yet!
Stay Tuned!
